The Art Gallery at Rivier University presents “Peripheral Vision.

“Peripheral Vision,” a retrospective exhibition of mixed media works by local artist Leo Balzano, is open to the public through March 5, 2015 at The Art Gallery at Rivier University.

Leo Balzano is a largely self-taught artist who speaks of his work as both a passion and a profound source of personal fulfillment. His approach is spontaneous and intuitive, yielding uniquely imaginative explorations of color, composition, and line. Various materials fascinate him and have become tools for his untiring ventures into visual abstraction.

A resident of Nashua, New Hampshire, Balzano is a retired security analyst and a disabled Vietnam War veteran. On two occasions, he returned to Saigon where he engaged groups of children—victims of oppression and the atrocities of war—in creative papermaking projects.

Sr. Theresa Couture, Director of The Art Gallery at Rivier University, comments, “Leo Balzano is deeply engaged with the visible world. He looks closely and experiments freely. The work that results seems to come from an inclination to shift away from a direct line of vision to the richness of what teases and surprises at the periphery. As such, the totality is refreshingly spontaneous and exquisitely unassuming.”

Regular open hours for The Gallery are listed below. Admission is always free, and The Art Gallery is accessible by elevator and six low steps.

Monday/Wednesday/Thursday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Tuesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
