NASHUA, NH – Dr. Mark Meehan, Rivier University’s Associate Professor of Education and History and Associate Vice President of Global Engagement, has been awarded the Coolidge Fellowship for summer 2014. One of five recipients selected from a large and strong pool of candidates, Dr. Meehan will join the other fellows for a month of intense scholarly research, reflection and conversation on topics related to religion, leadership and social transformation.

The Coolidge Fellowship is a four-week research and writing program at Columbia University in New York City. Fellowship scholars receive full access to the libraries and research facilities at Columbia University, Teachers College, Union, Auburn, and Jewish Theological Seminaries. The fellows share a common meal each evening during the week and attend an array of cultural events together.

After the month’s residency, each scholar submits an article to be published together in the CrossCurrents Theological Journal. Dr. Meehan is researching and writing his article on “Traditional Islamic Views of Governance and Social Change,” which also will contribute to his next book scheduled for publication in spring 2016.
