Rivier's Department of Education offers degree programs and certifications for prospective and current teachers. Degrees are offered at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level.

Teachers, school counselors, and administrators who graduate from Rivier are in high demand–for their dedication, competence, and wide-ranging practical experience. Education majors take full advantage of the University’s state-of-the-art Education Center, featuring a nationally accredited laboratory preschool and an extensive curriculum and software library. Rivier education graduates are eligible for certification in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Territories; the Department of Defense Education Activity; Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario per the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement.

Undergraduate students can choose from programs in early childhood education, education and community leadership, elementary education, secondary education, and special education. The programs are designed to offer several opportunities to explore students' interest in and potential for teaching before placement in a full-time student teaching internship position in senior year. The education and community leadership program prepares students to be effective leaders in community-based organizations with an understanding of sound financial management, effective leadership, hiring and staff evaluation practices, and the flexibility to adapt to changing market forces.

Rivier’s graduate education programs are recognized throughout the region as the programs of choice for current and prospective teachers. The University offers some 30 graduate education programs—all designed to prepare graduates to become a highly qualified teacher or to assume leadership roles in various fields of specialization, including curriculum and instruction, school administration, reading, multicultural counseling, emotional and behavioral disorders, and parenting education, among others. Rivier’s new M.Ed. in Special Education with Autism Specialization, which focuses on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree, certification in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, and who wish and to become certified in special education. This program prepares students to work specifically with students with autism spectrum disorders in a program or classroom setting.

Rivier also offers a doctoral program with a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Learning–the first in New Hampshire–providing educators with an understanding of the social, cultural, economic, and political influences and forces in society that affect education. Rivier's doctoral program seeks to prepare leaders who anticipate the need for effective policies, practices, and interventions based on current research to promote and enhance leadership in learning and teaching.
